Getting to Tybee Island.

Georgia's easternmost point. Wide flat beach, the oldest lighthouse in Georgia (178 steps, First Order Fresnel lens, views to Hilton Head on a clear day), and Fort Pulaski on the way. 25 minutes by car on Hwy 80 (Victory Drive east).

Victory Drive east becomes Hwy 80. Follow it 18 miles straight to the island. Park at the south end parking lots (~$5/hr, free in winter). Arrive before 10am on summer weekends — lots fill fast.

🚕 Uber / Lyft

~$35–50 each way from Forsyth Park. Reliable but pricier for a full day trip. Great for evening restaurant runs when you don't want to drive back.

🏖 On the Island

South Beach (main area) — wide sand, Pier, Tybee Pier Pavilion. North Beach — quieter, near the lighthouse at 30 Meddin Dr. Lighthouse open daily except Tuesday 9am–5:30pm, $9.

⚓ Fort Pulaski

On Cockspur Island on Hwy 80 — stop on the way to Tybee. Civil War fort where rifled cannons changed warfare forever in April 1862. Robert E. Lee supervised construction. NPS pass accepted. $10.

40 Estill Hammock Rd, (912) 786-9857. Waterfront fish camp, live alligators in the yard, low country boil. Savannah institution. Arrive early or expect a wait.
